Social Work

MSW is two years and four semesters Master Degree Program. It imparts intensive theoretical and practical training for students to work as professionally trained social worker in the specialized areas of:

  • Medical & Psychiatric Social work
  • Community Development
  • Human Resource Management
  • Correctional administration. 
  • General Health Setting
  • Institutional services & Rehabilitation Centers.

The course has an inbuilt facility for providing practical training along with theory classes. Students have to attend theory classes for four days a week and they are placed in various agencies both government, non government, industries, hospital settings for practical trainings as Concurrent field work during the remaining two days of that week.

  • Concurrent field visit two days in a week is applicable to all the four semesters. Concurrent field visit helps students for ongoing learning of practice and develop intervention and interpersonal skills in reality situations.
  • Students are taken for orientation visits to NGOs during I semester and Industries during III semester which gives them an idea about the functioning of the agencies.  Also, students will get exposed to understand the services provided in response to society’s needs.

Term Project: Term Project is a small piece of research work a student is expected to do in the I semester. This gives an idea and creates interest in Social Work Research.

Social Work Rural camp: This provides opportunities to experience rural life style , analyze rural dynamics and observe the functioning of local self government and voluntary organizations.  It also helps to develop skill to carry out and evaluate and report the experience.

Summer Placement: An exclusive exposure to the practical field for 21 days continuously at the end of the second semester.

Open elective – II & III semester, students may opt for a choice based paper which includes variety of paper from other Departments like Department of Commerce, Communication & Journalism, computer Science within the campus.

Dissertation/Major Project: Students required to carry out research on various social issues of the society in practical fulfillment of course.

Block Placement: An exclusive exposure to the practical field 100 km away from Mysore for six weeks at the end of the Fourth Semester is another unique feature.
